Selfridge Spot Table Lamp

A finely textured silk velvet devore and merino wool lampshade on an English Oak lozenge shaped lamp base.

Handmade lampshade made by fusing the traditional practice of wet felting with devore. The solid oak base is polished with beeswax to bring out the beautiful patina and textures of the wood and finished with antique brass lamp fittings and twisted natural linen flex cord.

The Selfridge Spot lamp is part of my Translucency & Opacity Collection, a range of felted textiles that investigates the relationship between actual and perceived  textures with light. Each design within the collection has been inspired by my love of architecture, with the designs developed from my photographs and drawing of iconic buildings. The circle design on this shade has been inspired by 15,000 anodised aluminium discs mounted on the exterior of the Birmingham Selfridges Building, designed by Jan Kaplicky and Amanda Levete.

Selfridge Spot Scarf

 Silversoles

Luxury devore felted scarf made with beautifully fine silk velvet and merino wool with equisite textures and tonal shades that are a delight to wear and make you feel extra special.

These unique scarves are hand made in stages – initially the silk velvet devore design is created by removing areas of the velvet pile and then the scarf fabric is hand felted with a soft merino wool and silk blend. A final stage sees the scarves being individually dyed.

The ‘Selfridge Spot’ Devore Felted Scarves are part of the Translucency & Opacity Collection, a range of felted textiles developed during my MA where my research focused on haptic perception. Each design is inspired by my love of architecture, with the designs developed from my photographs and drawing of iconic buildings. The Selfridge Spot is inspired by the Birmingham Selfridge building in the centre of Birmingham, a building I passed everyday whilst at studying at BCU.

Pebble Lampshade

Three dimensional pebble shaped textures originally inspired by Cornish cobble stone beaches. These lampshades are made by hand tying and manipulating felted wool to create a raised pebble textured surface. The Pebble lampshade offers contrasting visual effects created by the soft sculptural surface, looking beautiful both when unlit and illuminated.

This lampshade is handmade using the traditional practice of wet felting, combined with the ancient art of Shibori. The wool fibres are first manipulated by hand tying up to 300+ pebble forms into the pre-felted wool and then worked by hand using a green olive oil soap solution. This involves applying soapy water and a lot of elbow grease to massage, rub and roll the work to form permanent pebble shapes and bond the wool fibres together! Whilst this shade is made using merino wool, I also make it in a variety of British sheep breed wools.

Leaf Table Lamp

The Leaf  table lamp combines beautifully fine textured silk habotai fabric with merino wool embedded with felt resistant leaf shaped discs.

The lampshade is handmade using the traditional practice of wet felting with the contemporary Nuno felting technique.. This involves applying soapy water to the fibres before rubbing and rolling the fabric and fibres, until they intermingle and fuse together, to form a permanent bond. The lampshade is mounted on a beeswaxed,  solid English oak base with antique brass fittings and twisted linen flex cord.

The Lampshade is available is 15 x 15 x 30cm.

The Base is 15 x 15 x 4cm

Silk Rods Lampshade

Silversoles

The Silk Rods lampshade is made from fine textured silk habotai fabric and merino wool embedded with felt resistant rods. This shade sees a range of rod sizes arranged in an undulating pattern across the lampshade surface. These stunning shade create wonderful atmospheric accent lighting and the natural palette complements a wide variety of interior colour schemes, both modern and traditional.

The Silk Rods lampshade is part of the Cellular Collection, a range of felted textiles inspired by cell structures examined under the microscope with macro-photographic imagery. Each lampshade is individually handmade combining the traditional wet felting and contemporary Nuno process.

Luxury devore felted cushions made with beautifully fine silk velvet and merino wool with exquisite textures and tonal shades.

These unique cushions are hand made in stages – initially the silk velvet devore design is created by removing areas of the velvet pile and then the fabric is hand felted with a soft merino wool and silk blend before being made in to cushions with piped edges.

Cobweb Cushions

Luxury felted and embroidered cushions.

Created using the traditional wet felting technique of fusing fibres together through a process of agitation, massage and rolling to permanently bond the fibres into a new felted textile, These luxury felted cushions are made using felted merino wool and silk fibres machine embroidered on silk velvet fabric.
