About Acme Atelier

Andrea Chappell is a bespoke, contemporary kiltmaker, creating modern kilts using traditional techniques, bespoke textiles, vintage fabrics, historic tartans and classic tweeds. Andrea focuses on the resourceful use and re-use of materials, combining the craft skills of kiltmaking with those of printmaking, on a small, sustainable scale, to create modern family heirlooms, handmade in Scotland.

Botanically printed lining

Made by Acme Atelier

Traditional tweed box pleated kilt, handstitched to the traditional design but with buttons in place of buckles. The inside is handprinted with the botanical plants that originally would have dyed the wool used in weaving the tweed itself.

A traditionally handstitched kilt fully pleated in worsted wool of three clashing colours with bespoke leatherwork forming an extended set of belt buckle straps with embroidered decoration.

The flat back kilt

This modern denim kilt is traditionally handstitched but forms a contemporary design, with a flat back apron to mirror the front and two deep inset box pleats at each hip, inset with African strip cloth with historic Kinguissie style pleating at each side.

Adaptible and reversible kids kilt

One traditionally handstitched kilt made for two children of different ages, designed to fit both at the same time as well as grow with them both into adulthood. Made from vintage deadstock tweed and two end of roll wools with detachable front aprons that allow for reversible options unique to each child.
