Market Carts

As a wheelwright / wainwright I work on any wheels or vehicle that comes through the door, but if I have a speciality its market Carts. Whether it be the 2 wheel Costermonger / Market Porter style, or the 4 wheel Market Stall. I find the history fascinating – Tradition has it that the Owners name and the market it was to be used is carved on the wheels and chassis, a tradition I am delighted to continue on both new carts, and restored carts.

I am delighted to see that carts I have built or restored are finding new uses. I have supplied carts that are used as Mobile Bars, Buffet Carts, Oyster Bars, a Burger Stall, Retail displays and film props.

I usually have a couple of carts in stock and if I dont have what you want I can build it for you.

Wooden Buckets

This year I have expanded my range to included Wooden Buckets and other Domestic Cooperage. Historically accurate these have been purchased by Museums and reenactors alike.

I offer a standard range and am always happy to consider one offs or special sizes.

Wooden Wheels

I Build new and repair wooden wheels for all types of vehicle, from a wheel barrow to a carriage. Before a wheelwright can make the wheel you first have to make the components, so the picture shows all the components that have to be made by hand to make a set of four wheels.

This set was for a Market Stall which I restored and is now back trading again repurposed from a fruit and veg stall to become a Mobile Oyster Bar, find a new modern use for a traditional vehicle.
