Victoria Merness - Little House of Victoria
About Victoria Merness - Little House of Victoria
I am an artist and teacher specialising in hand embroidery. My work aims to demystify the art of embroidery with the use of knitting wool and DMC embroidery threads.
I have a keen interest in folk art and the arts and crafts movement, and this is evident in the designs that I produce. Originating from a background in painting and paper cutting, all of my embroidery designs are first hand drawn before being interpreted into stitch. There are two distinct themes to my work. During the study for a MA in Contemporary Fine Art in 2020, my work focused on an autobiographical theme, where I produced several stitched portraits, often working on vintage family photographs of my family from a Spanish/Argentine heritage that were only recently discovered.
Well-being is at the very heart of Little House of Victoria. My mission is to share the healing power of stitch with everyone in need of relaxation, to help escape digital burn out. With the stresses and strains of everyday life, we could all benefit from finding a meditative state of mind on a regular basis, that is why I have designed the embroidery kits so that I can share the therapeutic benefits that hand embroidery has to offer.
