About Katie Russell

Although trained in Jewellery and Metalwork, I studied Constructed Textiles as a support study to my main degree. That is when I fell in love with tapestry weaving. I design, create and weave tapestry weavings on an upright loom in a contemporary style, but still using traditional techniques. The themes I explore are maritime ones, especially war and conditions in the Arctic.  I also have a keen interest in maritime architecture, especially derelict buildings. I use a lot of natural fibres in my work, such as cotton, linen, wool and jute. I am available for individual workshops or talks. Please contact me for any commission work.
