Sue Lowday

About Sue Lowday
Each item is individually hand cut, dyed and finished in my workshop, developing my designs inspired by the unique qualities of the vegetable tanned leather. I work mainly with vegetable tanned leather sourced from English and Italian tanneries. The tools I use have been collected over many years. Silversmithing skills learned on the BA course in Sheffield early in my career are experimentally used to work the leather.
Part of my work is designing and make intriguing, unique objects that may not be absolutely functional, alongside fully functional considered items that have years of practical use. I make belts, bags, journals, purses etc that I sell mainly through selected craft shows, I have a website shop for belt purchases.
I am an elected Brother of the Art Workers Guild, selected maker of the Sussex Guild of Craftsmen and have BA(Hons) Silversmithing & Jewellery, MA Metalsmithing & Jewellery, Leather Conservation Course with tutor Theo Sturge.
