Steven Murphy is a blacksmith specialising in use of hot forged metal. Having graduated in 2008 with a BA(Hons) in Artist Blacksmithing, Steven spent 18 months working for Ironart of Bath with other blacksmiths and metalworkers to improve his skills and gain knowledge of the business. Using a mix of both traditional and contemporary metalworking techniques Steven creates individual design-led works which draw heavily on his influences of growth and movement in nature. Steven also makes prop weapons and provides his services for the film and television industry working in the armoury departments of shows such HBO's Game of Thrones, Penny Dreadful and The Frankenstein Chronicles. Steven has also won awards for his work including the Stanley Allcard Cup for Outstanding Ability in the Craft of Blacksmithing, which is awarded by the Worshipful Company of Blacksmiths in London, and being Highly Commended at the 2013 Heritage Craft Awards for his teaching work.
