About Shalini Austin

I am a self taught metalsmith and I make Copper Things. Originally from New Delhi, India I now live in Stamford, Lincolnshire with my husband and 2 rescue dogs. It started as a hobby in 2008, making wire jewellery. As I progressed on my creative journey I learnt to appreciate sheet metal, especially copper. So it is only natural that my work is now taking a new path in fabricating metal. Since Summer 2014 I have been working mainly with sheet copper, crafting a decorative and functional range of copper jewellery, home-ware and sculptures.  I love working with sheet metal and creating interesting 3D forms and shapes, often using nothing more than a simple hammer to create textures. Recently I have also started kiln fired enamelling, which has proven very popular, especially with jewellery customers.

Hammered Reclaimed Copper Bowl

Hand forged Copper Bowl made from Reclaimed Copper.

Beautiful vintage look hammered reclaimed copper bowl made from a piece of 1mm thick sheet copper.

I started with a 22cm square piece of copper which I cut into a circle using a jeweller’s saw. This piece went through several rounds of annealing, hammering, shaping and sanding to finally become this beautiful textured bowl.

Dimensions: Weight: 227 Grams, Height 3 cm, Diameter 18.8 cm
