Specialised in
I specialise in hand knitting. Established in 1983 my studio has been working for nearly 40 years creating contemporary design using traditional technique. I specialise in innovation in hand knit design based on the use of traditional techniques including Gansey knitting. I worked to develop the Moray Firth Partnership Gansey Project and am currently on the steering committee for 'Knitting the Herring' at the Scottish Fisheries Museum and will be developing the first Scottish 5ply yarn spun at Uist Wool in the Hebrides using local fleece. Sustainability, Heritage, Education and Innovation are at the heart of my company. I am presently working on a book about Gansey's with David & Charles, co authored with my work partner Sheila Greenwell. We produce our own yarns made in Scotland, Knitting patterns and collaborate with the Glasgow/Paris label La Fetiche, creating and producing their collections of hand knit.
Balvenie Master of Craft 2005 and 2012. Fletcher of Saltoun Award 2019 Saltire Society for "her outstanding contribution to Scotland’s reputation throughout the world for innovation, hard work, intelligence and superb craftsmanship.
