Weaving with Colour

Explore how to weave confidently with colour in this three day practical and flexible “Weaving with Colour” course alongside award-winning weaver Angie Parker.

During this three day course, you will be using backstrap looms and 4 shaft table looms, to create a series of woven textiles that explore basic weave structure and colour experiments.

There will be the opportunity to learn how to design a warp and dress a tabletop loom as well as setting up a simple back-strap loom.

The aim is that the course will be structured to suit each participant; some looms will be set up ready for weaving if you’d simply like to get stuck in when you arrive.

Angie will communicate with all the participants individually prior to starting, to find out what people most want to learn about and will plan the days accordingly.

During the course, Angie will share the way she approaches colour in her design work and encourage participants to experiment confidently with colour. A vast array of yarns in a variety of colours and textures will be at your disposal for the duration including Angie’s signature palettes.

You will have lots of time to experiment and work on your weaving techniques, with Angie on hand throughout for guidance and advice.

By the end of the course you will:

  • Know how to thread and weave on a back-strap loom.
  • Know how to make a simple warp for a back-strap loom in your home without any specialist equipment
  • Understand basic weaving principles.
  • Know how to thread and use a table loom.
  • Have broadened your knowledge of weaving.
  • Grow in confidence with your use of colour.
